How single & multi-media filtration works

1

Water containing suspended solids and particulate matter enters the multimedia filter unit. This water may come from various sources, such as municipal supplies, wells, or surface water.
2

Inside the filter vessel, there is a layered bed of different filtering media arranged from coarse to fine. As water flows downward through the media bed, larger particles and sediment are trapped in the upper layers of the media. Each layer of media serves to progressively filter out smaller particles as the water continues to move through the bed.
3

The particles are removed through a combination of mechanisms including mechanical trapping, adsorption, and physical entrapment within the media bed. The porous nature of the media provides ample surface area for the particles to adhere or be captured.
4

The now-filtered water exits the bottom of the multimedia filter vessel. This water is significantly clearer and cleaner, having had the majority of suspended solids and particulates removed during its passage through the media layers. The filtered water meets the desired quality standards and can be directed for further treatment or for distribution to consumers, depending on the application.
