Walker Station is part of the Fort Bend Independent School District in Texas, operating HVAC cooling systems serving a large public facility.

The challenge

Walker Station faced severe scale formation and corrosion within its HVAC cooling tower and chiller system, despite the use of scale-prevention chemicals

A system assessment showed the damage was extensive enough that full replacement was more economical than repair. Chemical dosing had failed to protect the equipment, increasing maintenance costs and risk to the new installation

The solution

Following a water assessment using the Fluid Dynamics Expert 5 simulator, two 3” Colloid-a-tron units were specified and installed downstream of the circulating pumps as part of the new system installation in February 2013.

Operating cycles of concentration were set in line with the simulator’s recommendations.
